TOKYO Night & Light
Tokyo Transformation Chronicle
I was in charge of directing and producing a projection mapping artwork set in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which pulsates with the memories and energy of the city. It was also featured in Brain magazine and the online publication CG World.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, a gigantic organism
In this work, we view the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building not merely as a fixed structure, but as "a gigantic living organism" into which the thoughts, memories, and contradictions of the times have accumulated in layers. The building writhes and moves, smoothly transforming its form into folk figures such as Okame and Hyottoko, yokai such as Bakeneko and Tengu, or even auspicious symbols, fluctuating intensely between the splendor of a festival and an unsettling atmosphere. The way it exposes the overwhelming energy hidden within is both the "beauty" of the city and an inescapable "distortion." Rather than separating these two aspects, we attempted to present them as a single "phenomenon" that encompasses them all.
From architecture to phenomenon
Rather than treating massive buildings as mere projection screens, this work portrays the buildings themselves as constantly transforming entities, creating a physical sensation of the city breathing and changing from within. This piece is not meant to be a view of Tokyo from the outside; it is constructed as a "space" to deeply draw the viewer into the energy flowing within it.
An experience that leaves a lingering sense of unease.
This work is not intended to be completed with mere beauty or comfort. By deliberately leaving a sense of "unease," it aims to create a subtle unease within the viewer. This unease quietly works over time, and instead of being consumed as a fleeting experience, it lingers as a memory. It doesn't end with just comfort. By deliberately leaving a sense of unease, the aim was to create an experience that continues to influence memory over time.
