We undertook a full renovation of the "Michinoku Matsuriya" show at Hoshino Resorts' Aomoriya, which is set during Aomori's four major festivals. Over the course of more than two years, the project involved collaboration with facility staff, as well as Aomori's Nebuta makers and artisans, resulting in a show that offers a new experience by fusing Aomori's traditional culture with modern technology. The show reopened on April 1, 2022. LIL handled overall direction and production, music production, stage direction, video production, and system development. Working with familiar collaborators and partners, we also handled stage design, performance instruction, shadow puppetry, video, sound, lighting design, costume design, and promotional videos. As Aomoriya hotel staff took to the stage to perform, the space transformed through various mechanisms, creating a show that fully captured the charm of Aomori through a blend of old and new. The show is filled with the thoughts of the Aomoriya staff and us, so if you are visiting Tohoku, we hope you will come to Aomoriya and watch the Michinoku Matsuri-ya show.
