KOISHIKAWA XROSS

We were in charge of video direction and production at "KOISHIKAWA XROSS®," a new cultural heritage appreciation experience facility utilizing digital technology, which was opened at TOPPAN's headquarters. This project began with the definition that digital cultural heritage is not merely a record of "form," but a "phenomenon" in which countless particles of light are temporarily connected through chance and necessity. Just as with all things in the universe, and by extension the structure of the universe, the essence of all existence is a collection of flowing light, and human consciousness is also connected within that great flow. Starting from this idea, we designed the entrance to cultural heritage as a "door of light."

We were in charge of the video direction and production for the "Digital Cultural Heritage Museum KOISHIKAWA XROSS®," a facility that opened at TOPPAN's headquarters, where visitors can experience new cultural heritage appreciation using digital technology. At the GATE, we used a torii-shaped LED screen to introduce the visitors, and the VR theater's opening video, a 20m long, 5m high 16K ultra-high definition video, created an overwhelming sense of realism and immersion, while in the EXHIBITION ROOM, we used immersive projection animation to present Ito Jakuchu's mysterious work, "Shaka and the Sixteen Arhats Screen."

VR THEATER OPENING

Using 16K ultra-high-definition video spanning 20 meters in length and 5 meters in height, we have created an immersive experience in which the space itself envelops the viewer. As the viewpoint delves into the world of light particles, the viewer themselves also becomes one with it. Enveloped in light, and eventually dissolving into space as a particle themselves, they subtly change the phase of their existence and move inward. We have designed an introductory experience that involves such a transformation of bodily sensation.

EXHIBITION ROOM

In this immersive projection installation, inspired by the "Sixteen Arhats of Shakyamuni" screen painting, we constructed a spatial experience that encompasses the entire environment. In response to the serene manifestation of the Buddha seated at the center, beings such as the Arhats, lions, white elephants, and dragons gather, and the space gradually transforms into a landscape reminiscent of paradise. These too appear as a collection of light, and by being present within it, the boundaries of existence begin to gently waver. The images expand from the walls to the floor, enveloping the viewer and creating a "transformation of space" that transcends mere visual experience. The boundary between reality and another world dissolves, and the viewer themselves enters the interior of that world. We constructed such a spatial experience.
